Global energy-related CO2 emissions stayed flat for the second year in a row, according to a report released today by the International Energy Agency (IEA).
Howard Covington, a senior adviser to Preventable Surprises said: “From 2000 to 2013 emissions grew at 2.5% a year; they have now been static for two years and must for the foreseeable future fall at 4% a year. We may be on the verge of a radical transformation of the energy system. Longer-term, expect permanently weak coal, gas and oil prices as the first two are out-competed by renewables and the third is displaced by soaring electric vehicle sales.”
