Seeking a new Chair: Help us become the global “tough friend” for the investment industry

Archive, Blog & Articles

Are you a senior executive from the investment world, disturbed by its impact on society and free to challenge it to be a more responsible and socially useful actor? Do you think the incremental approach of even the most sustainable investors today falls far short of dealing with systemic dangers like climate change?  Would you like to use some of your time to really act on your concerns and champion the cause of truly sustainable finance?

You can, by becoming Chair of Preventable Surprises, an innovative think-tank and advocacy group. We’re looking for the right person to help us oversee the growth of the organisation to system influence scale from today’s status as a committed organisation backed by a dedicated network of professionals.

The world’s largest institutional investors have huge influence – for good or bad – in corporate boardrooms worldwide because of the investments they make, whose value surpasses the gross domestic product of major nations. They also have significant clout with governments. Preventable Surprises exists to make sure that this influence advances a financial system that is sustainable and resilient, both environmentally and socially.

One of our distinctive contributions is to promote ‘forceful stewardship’, which is real investor engagement with companies to address systemic risks. Society needs investors to work together to enable corporations to embrace the challenges and opportunities of the 21st Century.

Another unique role is our work with ‘positive mavericks’ in the investment ecosystem. These are individuals who are willing to act as change agents to push their organisations to do more than they might otherwise do.

The role of the Chair will be to help us appoint a new CEO and help them to execute our growth strategy.  The right person will have the networks, influence, and industry knowledge to enable this bold and progressive-minded organisation to achieve a sustainable, socially just, resilient global economy, and find the enhanced funding to do this urgently needed work.
